Historic Preservation - The Ultimate Recycling
|
"Not only did [Southern Evergreen] play a critical role in enabling the project on a fundamental level, however, you went beyond that and proceeded to orchestrate a top notch rehabilitation of the house in its new location that has far exceeded Preservation Greensboro's expectations and added tremendous value not just to the house, but to the entire 400 block of N. Cedar Street." Marsh Prause, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Preservation Greensboro Development Fund |

Preservation Greensboro Development Fund Historic Home Renovation - MOVE THAT HOUSE !!! A wonderful two-story frame Queen Anne single family house located at 220 Blandwood Avenue is part of an ensemble of historic properties owned by the Zenke family. The Zenkes are recognized by many in the community for their reputation in architecture, interior design, and historic preservation. Upon realizing that expansion of the nearby jail was inevitable, the Zenkes approached county staff with a proposal for a land swap, in which the county and the family trades parcels. Zenkes turned to the Preservation Greensboro Development Fund for assistance. The Development Fund is an entity borne from Preservation Greensboro in the 1980s. Its purpose is to partner with other real-estate interests to preserve historic places throughout the community. Through the Fund, the frame Queen Anne-style house at 220 Blandwood Avenue will be preserved in a complex agreement involving the Fund, the Zenke family, Southern Evergreen, the City of Greensboro, Guilford County, and the soon-to-be-owner Mahlon Honeycutt. 1929 Bathroom Renovation - Sunset Hils, Greensboro
This charming 1929 home in Sunset Hills is just perfect for its new family - almost. Southern Evergreen's Nora Miller and Steve Johnson have been asked to renovate the existing utility room into a larger, modern bathroom, and convert the existing 1980's bathroom into a utility room... a flip! We will also be repairing some of the plaster walls and renovating some previous carpentry work so the formal rooms will ounce again retain their historical charm and provide better use and function for its new family. A relatively recent addition to the home prevents this wonderful cottage from qualifying for historic renovation credits but the new family is very conscious of its architectural heritage. All of the new finishes and carpentry will respect the historic architecture and pay homage to its past while preparing it for the future. |
